You can never predict whats going to happen. Each character has a number of lives once those are depleted they are gone til you see them around town again. You can even heal out of death during battle. All health and status elements are healed after every battle even death. Enemies are all visible and dodging them is widely encouraged. Everything you’ve come to expect is thrown out the window. You will constantly find yourself changing up your arsenal as you try out different combinations never sure what is leading to which side effect. Side quests are necessary in order to find the right stuff which will get you through the game. The main story takes a side seat here as amour and weaponry are vital. See you can’t really grind in Romancing Saga 3 as the types of enemies level up with you. It has a completely unique system which I have never seen in any other kind of RPG, where instead of leveling your stats (although you do increase HP and Mana) it works more on “sparking” new techniques through the inspiration of fighting newer, tougher and more unique enemies. Now the 2019 remake of Romancing Saga 3 did add a lot of shiny new graphical elements and quality of life changes, but the core of the game is still very much where it always was.
